Mainframe System Retires

You may remember that over the summer we published an update on this blog on the “mainframe elimination,” the long-term IT effort to retire our legacy mainframe systems. At that time, the team was focusing on updates to the financial close system. Now, we are pleased to announce, the mainframe project is complete! In late October a new claim financial system was launched, marking the close of the last project and officially sending the mainframe into its retirement.

If you have not worked closely on the project you may be wondering what all the excitement is about. Besides the project being a multi-year, hard-fought effort by our IT, finance, claims and business unit staff, it also defied the odds.

October 2-6 was National Customer Service Week. The 2017 theme was “Building Trust”, and Salem Ops celebrated this event with team building activities that challenged assigned teams to work together, strategize, solve puzzles/clues to achieve the ultimate goal and Escape the Room! While each of the 6 teams faced a different “Escape Room” challenge (Halloween themed!), working together and trusting each other became a common and essential component to achieving the task.

Our Salem office recently held a Paint Night, hosted by employee Tina Perdue, with part of the proceeds being donated to the Relay for Life. This was a fun volunteer springtime event that allowed employees to interact with each other while sharing their artistic skill. The $100 donation to the Relay for Life was an additional plus!
