A few weeks ago IMU’s Seattle team attended the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle’s (MIAS) annual dinner. The event was special for many reasons, but especially because our colleague Sara Farren’s daughter Keira was recognized during the event as one of the recipients of the MIAS college scholarship.
Recently our IMU colleagues Paul Sauer and Kate McKay volunteered for the St. Louis Independent Agents (STLIA) Junior Achievement In A Day program. The two participated in a terrific day of teaching and learning at Buder Elementary School on January 11. Congratulations to Paul and Kate on their support of a great organization and, as you can see from photos of the day, captivating the attention of some wonderful students!
It’s always exciting to see when someone’s personal passions overlaps with their work. This is the case for one of our IMU employees Joel Buffa, a senior underwriter in our California office, who is an avid sailor and recently accomplished a major maritime milestone. He competed in and completed the 49th running of the classic Transpacific Yacht Race.

Last month, IMU’s Boston team decided to shake things up by organizing a fun marketing campaign for their producers. They came up with the idea to send IMU branded socks to each of their agents with a note that read “We’ll knock your socks off with exceptional service and pricing. Call IMU today!” As you can see in the photo, the socks were bright and fun, as IMU’s hope was to have the socks put a smile on everyone’s face.
“The idea came to me while riding home on the train,” Meredith Atwood, New England Regional President, said. “I wanted to do something different and provide something useful.”
This is the first snail mail campaign the region has done and it was a huge success. The team received nothing but positive feedback, in addition to some great pictures! Below are just a few of the responses the IMU team received.

Recently several OneBeacon Technology and IMU teammates joined forces for a road trip. No, it wasn’t a joint agency call. The group volunteered together at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County! They spent several hours “behind-the-scenes” sorting and packaging food supplies for hungry families. A special shout-out to OBTI’s Pam Pearson who organized the event—and to everyone from our Anaheim location who spent worthwhile time giving back!
