Recently, many of our Connecticut-based teammates helped mulch garden beds at the Chrysalis Center (one of our Community Engagement nonprofit partners) in Hartford, CT. Gardens like this aid with providing fresh vegetables in an otherwise urban food desert. This particular garden consists of 30 raised beds, and once mature, these plants supply food for their Freshplace food pantry and are sold in Homestead Farmers Markets throughout the summer.
Our team spent several hours laying down a heavy layer of mulch for weed control in the Railway Gardens. Chrysalis Center’s horticulturist, Sean, is the one and only gardener, so he really appreciated the help, sharing that if we hadn’t been there helping him that day, he’d be doing it all himself in the rain the next day.
