April showers might bring May flowers, but as we’ve seen over the past few decades, the rain keeps coming all summer long. And rainstorms can cause flash flooding, especially in urban areas that are covered in pavement and concrete.
Several of our climate change adaptation partners are using natural infrastructure elements – like rain gardens – to help reduce flooding. And they want to share some of their techniques so your garden can help make your home more resilient to floods!

Host: Isaac Crosby, Lead Hand in Urban Agriculture at Evergreen
Details: Isaac will share his traditional Indigenous gardening techniques, as well as tips on how to grow sustainably in an urban setting, with a focus on climate resilience and flood mitigation. He’ll teach you how to grow and care for your own organic, sustainable food garden using items you have at home.
You’ll learn how to build your own rain garden, make your own fertilizer, and how to grow in unlikely containers, like old pop bottles and egg cartons! You’ll also get an update on Climate Ready Schools, the project funded by the Intact Adaptation Action Grants.
