Power in Unity

Last week our teammates participated in the milestone 20th annual Massachusetts Conference for Women, among another sold-out crowd of 11k! This year’s theme was “Power in Unity” that was reinforced across all aspects of the programming, exhibit hall and Intact’s 20-strong representation. In Diana Martin’s words, once again they left feeling “wonderfully inspired” with new insights, perspectives and connections, and can’t wait for next year. Thank you for having us, #MassWomen!

A Helping Hand in Foster Care

CASA of St. Louis is a nonprofit that advocates for children in foster care — ensuring that through the uncertainties, they are heard, and their needs remain a priority. Intact’s Terrill Willis is a longtime CASA volunteer, working one-on-one with St. Louis area kids in the foster care system. CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteers, to represent and support each child in the court and community. In Terrill’s words, “It’s very rewarding. You are coming into the life of a child— to help them and see them grow.” He recently helped amplify CASA’s story through a local network news interview. Watch his full interview here.

Kudos to our teammates living our value of generosity!

Career Day with Chicago’s Future Leaders

Last month our Chicago office hosted Career Day for a dozen middle and high school students from Chicago’s Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club — our local Community Engagement team nonprofit partner. After a brief introduction from Nelson Kefauver, they played a version of “Deal or No Deal”— complete with miniature briefcases and an oversized check — hosted by Scott Karalis. The game illustrated the dynamics of settling a lawsuit versus taking a chance on a trial. Then Scott and Kathy Lengiewicz spoke about their roles as attorneys working within the claims department of a liability insurance carrier, and the students enjoyed a surprisingly competitive game of Scrabble hosted by Kathy and Michaelle Bauer. Wrapping up the day, Alex Ward explained the role of an underwriter in financial lines. They were excited not only to see our downtown Chicago office, but also learn about the different carriers in specialty insurance.

This afternoon, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we co-sponsored a virtual Fireside Chat with RSA’s RSAbility ERG, featuring a conversation with GAIN’s founder and general manager, Vic Mazonas. Through this session we delved into Vic’s own story and their experience with an unseen disability both personally and professionally. We celebrate efforts towards a more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable future for all! #IDPD #DisabilityDay
